Web Filter

Bloxx Web Filtering is the only true real-time Web content filter; it performs live analysis and real-time categorization of Web pages to dramatically improve protection and security.

Proxy & Cache

Bloxx Internet filtering appliances also function as a proxy with an onboard cache which secures, simplifies and speeds up Internet access.

When installed, Bloxx saves requested web pages and other files that users in the network have requested onto a high performance hardware platform so that successive requests for these pages or files can be satisfied by the cache feature, rather than requesting it again from the Internet.

This not only serves its users by retrieving information more quickly but also reduces Internet traffic itself. A Bloxx appliance will typically reduce Internet bandwidth utilization by up to 50%, in addition web pages that 'hit' the cache will be returned instantly giving the perception of a much faster Internet connection.

The Bloxx appliance is installed on the Local Area Network (LAN) with one or more connections according to the type of connection mode. There are two basic connection modes, Pass Thru and Directed Proxy. In Pass Thru mode, the "network" effectively directs the user through the cache. This can be either via a layer 4 switch or router or if you have a Bloxx appliance, through its in-built capability.

In the native form of Pass Thru with transparent caching, Bloxx has the same functionality as that involving a layer 4 switch, however, as no redirection to the cache is required, the latency is reduced by two Ethernet hops. Transparent caching allows much quicker and easier installation into existing networks and no need to reconfigure existing browsers. There is also a significant cost saving as a layer 4 switch is not required.

In Proxy mode, the browser is configured with the address of the cache and talks through it directly, which is especially useful when Bloxx is replacing a 1st generation proxy.

Bloxx goes to great lengths to ensure that all Bloxx products are extremely simple to configure. Once configured, Bloxx will operate seamlessly with no need for operator intervention.
