Media Filter

The Bloxx Media Filter allows you to access YouTube in a safe, filtered environment by creating a library of pre-approved Youtube content that can be easily shared across your organization. Gain all the benefits of YouTube with none of the risk.

Bloxx Media Filter Installation

There are various ways to deploy and configure the Bloxx Media Filter appliance – the deployment depends on how it and other appliances, such as your existing web filter, are configured. Your current network set-up may affect the complexity of the Bloxx Media Filter installation but is unlikely to prohibit it. The most popular deployment configurations are illustrated below.

Don't worry if your set-up is different to either of the examples above – Bloxx will work with you to determine the best deployment for your organisation.

To populate your Bloxx Media Filter library you need access to YouTube – users browse YouTube for content and then submit it for approval. Once approved, content is available for students and teachers to view via the Bloxx Media Filter.

Therefore, before you consider who will have access the Bloxx Media Filter itself, you need to decide who will still be allowed access to YouTube. Some organisations will want to prohibit access to YouTube entirely, meaning that staff will have to browse YouTube elsewhere – perhaps at home. Other organisations will allow YouTube access, but only from dedicated computers – perhaps in a staff room.

Users and Groups

The Bloxx Media Filter fully supports the management of users and groups via LDAP import allowing you to quickly and efficiently grant access to the application across your organisation.

Alternatively, if you wish to manage Bloxx Media Filter users independently, you can manually add as many users and groups as you need, directly to the Bloxx Media Filter.

LDAP Import

Access to the functionality provided by the Bloxx Media Filter is dependent on five roles: Viewers; Submitters; Approvers; Administra-tors; and Sub-admins. Each role has a specific purpose and gives access to the options required for that purpose. If you already have your domain users organised in such a way that fits with these roles, then managing Bloxx Media Filter access by LDAP import is the correct choice.

Furthermore, if you wish to restrict students access within the Bloxx Media Filter by age-group, and have your students grouped by age already on your LDAP server, then the transferal of this information to the Bloxx Media Filter provides a seamless age-dependent bar-rier between content for younger and older students.

Larger organisations may also have to cater for multiple domains and LDAP servers. The Bloxx Media Filter supports as many domains and LDAP servers as you require and allows for the independent maintenance of users and groups within each.

Email Notifications

Before content can be viewed in the Bloxx Media Filter library, it must first be submitted and approved. To help you keep track of new-content that has been submitted for approval, the Bloxx Media Filter automatically generates emails which are sent to Approvers. Once a submitted media clip is approved or rejected, an email is automatically sent to the original submitter. The e-mail addresses that the Bloxx Media Filter uses can either be imported via LDAP or added manually. You can also override any imported email address with a single specific address for any user.
