Bloxx malware blocking is incorporated as standard on Bloxx Web filtering appliances to give your network extra layers of protection. It provides protection against viruses and spyware at the gateway, and can block access to inadvertent attempts to access phishing websites.

Anti-Phishing

You no longer need to worry about phishing attacks against users on your network – with Bloxx you will have the latest defense in the fight against illegal phishing.

Bloxx Anti-Phishing blocks out even the most sophisticated phishing attempts through newly developed processes. Instead of relying on a database of known phishing sites – as is traditionally the case – Bloxx searches sites for elements common to a phishing site.

Protection is continually updated, working 24/7 from a feed provided by Bloxx, containing the latest information on phishing sites as they are created, renamed or cease to exist.

Bloxx's method of blocking regular expressions is the most intelligent way of anti-phishing. This method is much more sophisticated allowing organizations to be fully protected against the ever sophisticated and changing world of phishing so you could have up to the minute protection from the threat.

Anti-Virus

The Bloxx anti-virus feature has the capability to intercept viruses during download, preventing them from ever reaching the client computer. When the system detects a virus in a downloaded file the user will see an 'access denied' page and the infected file is discarded, so there is no risk that it can re-surface at a later date. The main benefits of this approach are:

  • The system protects the whole network, with a single point of protection. This means you have an additional layer of virus protection, if you deploy another desktop virus solution. If you don't, using Bloxx means you are not dependent on having anti-virus software on every desktop PC. We recommend, however, that desktop antivirus protection is still employed as it is good practice to have multiple lines of defence in this arena.
  • The system works from a single point, so every virus database update will immediately benefit the whole network.
  • The system makes no distinction on the client, so it will prevent viruses being downloaded to Windows PCs, Apple Macs, Linux machines, etc. This is useful since while a Windows virus cannot infect a Linux machine it can still be passed on at a later date by simply copying the file.
  • The system benefits from Bloxx appliance style operation, so you have virus protection without the installation and maintenance hassle of 'conventional' virus solutions, and without interrupting your users.

The Bloxx AV feature can be integrated with other AV engines.

Anti-Spyware

The appliances' spyware protection is bi-directional, stopping both incoming and outgoing spyware traffic. Users cannot browse to known spyware sites and spyware already installed on a host cannot 'phone home' to its parent site.

Bloxx blocks the most common types of spyware files for all users automatically. This is configurable, so you can allow certain sites (for example, windowsupdate.com) to download content that you wish to install.
