Customer Background

The Internet plays a major role in the day to day running of any health organisation and NHS Lothian is no different. With over 10,000 PC users, NHS Lothian had previously used a tracking solution to monitor Internet access.
However, with such a large user base and an increasing volume of Internet usage, the log files from the tracking software became too large to manage and sift through. NHS Lothian started to investigate the tracking and filtering solutions in the marketplace.

The Challenge

NHS Lothian had a few key requirements from their solution, principally including:

• Cost Effective: With 10,000 users, paying for an annual licence for each user becomes very, very expensive.
• gh level reporting: It was important for NHS Lothian to be able to report on overall Internet use, but also to be able to drill down to the access of any individual user when investigating inappropriate use.

Having evaluated a number of solutions, NHS Lothian was introduced to Bloxx and was delighted to discover that it was an excellent fit for their key criteria.

The Results

• High level reporting: The real time reporting allows the management to see not only the sites that have been visited but more so, the actual accrued time each person has spent on the Internet.
• Blocking by category: This has been extremely helpful in situations when certain sites have to be accessible in relation to areas such as sexual health. Groups can be created allowing access depending on what group you are a member of. The ability to block and unblock sites instantly is also extremely useful in certain situations.
• Competitive pricing: In comparison to a number of other competitive products that price on a per user license, Bloxx has reduced the potential cost overhead considerably.
